  • Overview

    As part of the health care team, the Staff Psychiatrist will take a lead role in the provision of behavioral health medication management and consultation services. The Staff Psychiatrist works closely with medical providers, psychologist(s), behavioral health counselors (LCSW’s), and care coordinators to meet the clinical and non-clinical health needs of UHC’s patients. 

     

    The Staff Psychiatrist will maintain a consultation patient panel, with services including but not limited to initial intake assessments, differential diagnosis, individual/group/family psychotherapies, and creation of patient care-coordination plans with multi-disciplinary team members. The Staff Psychiatrist maintains a unique role as a medical provider, bridging communications between primary care providers, referral sources, and the behavioral health clinicians in an effort to provide and measure behavioral health goals and services as related to the Patient-centered Medical Home (PCMH).

    Responsibilities

    Works closely with the primary care provider and other members of the patient care team to:

    • Provide direct care to UHC patients with behavioral health problems or social service needs.
    • Assist primary care providers in consultative contact for patients by assessment of patient needs through “warm handoffs”.
    • Collaborate with the UHC perinatal services program for referral and treatment of patients in need of psycho-social and social service care.
    • Demonstrates exemplary customer service in both verbal and written encounters.
    • Maintains direct communication with site Health Center Manger(s) and the Behavioral Health Director, providing updates on operational issues, process improvement suggestions and other concerns.
    • Under the direction of the QA Coordinator, will participate in process improvement, peer review/chart audits, and data collection as necessary.
    • Provides coverage in various health centers and by telehealth as necessary.
    • Clinically interfaces with other departments to ensure operational effectiveness at assigned Health Centers.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    • Graduation from accredited university or school with a MD/DO degree and specialty in psychiatry.

     

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

    • Possess a valid CA Medical or Osteopathic Medicine License
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
    • Possess a current DEA Certification
    • Valid CA Driver’s License 

    PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

    •  Minimum 3-5 years experience in a behavioral health or general health care setting

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and push up to 50 pounds (on wheels).
    • Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to patients and staff.
    • Must be able to read memos, computer screens, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
    • Must have high manual dexterity.
    • Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, twist/turn
