  • Overview

    PLEASE NOTE: UHC Administration is currently located in Parlier, but will be relocating to Fresno in January 2019.

     

    This exempt position is responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding a program of primary and preventive dental care in a community health center setting. The Associate Dental Director supervises the UHC professional dental staff. This position requires that the Associate Director have a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings. The Associate Dental Director must have knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to community health programs.  The UHC Associate Dental Director is expected to be able to creatively work with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal productivity and programmatic effectiveness while continuously promoting the growth and development of fellow professionals, exercising appropriate supervisory control and displaying good work judgment.

    Responsibilities

    Works closely with the Dental Director, Regional Director, Director of Operations, and Health Center Managers, and other members of the clinic management team to:

     

    • Assists the Dental Director in the responsibility for the consistent quality of care for all dental patients of United Health Centers, and in the Evaluation and Chart Audit procedures of UHC professional dental personnel as directed.
    • Assist the executive team, board, and dental staff in the establishment of dental policies, quality improvement procedures, evaluating current practices, and make recommendations.
    • Recommend changes in all clinical areas or in general to improve patient flow, dental record, dental billings, and appointment practices.
    • Supervises, directs, trains, and educates dental ancillary staff, and dental professional staff, to perform their duties when necessary to understand policies, procedures, and protocols of the health center.
    • Participation in community health events, such as school screenings, health fairs, social and community events, etc.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    • Graduation from an accredited dental school.

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

    • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in California.
    • Current CPR (BLS) certifications. ACLS preferred.
    • DEA Certification

    PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience preferred, ideally within a community health center environment.

    SKILLS:

    • Ability to be clinically fluent in Spanish preferred.
    • Strong General dentistry skills and experience.
    • Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred.
    • Administrative, management, PI, and budget development experience preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required
    • Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients and providers of differing backgrounds; team player.
    • Customer-service oriented.
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Familiar with adult learning and general training techniques
    • Positive professional insight.
    • Flexibility and dependability.
    • Demonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgment.
    • Effective leadership/supervisory skills
    • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks.
    • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and push up to 50 pounds (on wheels).
    • Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to patients and staff.
    • Must be able to read memos, computer screens, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
    • Must have high manual dexterity.
    • Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, twist/turn.
