We are recruiting for an Associate Dental Director to join our Dental leadership team in Fresno, CA. 

 

This exempt position is responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding a program of primary and preventive dental care in a community health center setting. The Associate Dental Director supervises the UHC professional dental staff. This position requires that the Associate Dental Director have a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings. The Associate Dental Director must have knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to community health programs. The UHC Associate Dental Director is expected to be able to creatively work with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal productivity and programmatic effectiveness while continuously promoting the growth and development of fellow professionals, exercising appropriate supervisory control and displaying good work judgment.

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

Works closely with the Dental Directors, Directors of Operations, and Health Center Managers, Dental Supervisors and other members of the clinic management team to:

 

  • Assists the Dental Director in the responsibility for the consistent quality of care for all dental patients of United Health Centers, and in the Evaluation and Chart Audit procedures of UHC professional dental personnel as directed.
  • Assist the executive team, board, and dental staff in the establishment of dental policies, quality improvement procedures, evaluating current practices, and make recommendations.
  • Recommend changes in all clinical areas or in general to improve patient flow, dental record, dental billings, and appointment practices.
  • Supervises, directs, trains, and educates dental ancillary staff, and dental professional staff, to perform their duties when necessary to understand policies, procedures, and protocols of the health center.
  • Participation in community health events, such as school screenings, health fairs, social and community events, etc.

 

PERFORMANCE AREA 1: Dental Services Delivery, Program Management, and Quality Assurance

 

  • Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or referrals of individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
  • Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
  • Is responsible for participation and representation of Dental Department within QI activities and peer review activities.
  • Prepares and submits monthly written reports on Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress to the Dental Director, and prepares specific reports as requested by UHC Administration officers.
  • Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of dental provider staff as needed.
  • In consult with Dental Director designs, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.
  • Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested. This includes participation in health fairs and/or school presentations.
  • Assists in the support of operating budgets, as required to meet the goals of the organization.
  • Participates in short and long term program planning for the Dental Department and the organization, including development of goals and objectives.
  • Travels when necessary to fulfill the corporation's needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the organization and/or the Dental Department.
  • Assists in the coordination and integration of the organization's dental programs and services with other health center services ensuring continuity of patient care.
  • Supervises, advises, counsels and disciplines all Dental Department professional providers in conjunction with the counsel of UHC Administration officers. In addition, works with health center management to review and/or approves leave status for Dental Department professional providers and ancillary staff to ensure UHC's commitment to patient access.
  • Responsible for personal as well as Departmental full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and Credentialing, and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.
  • Works closely with Dental Director, Chief Operations Officer and Human Resources Department in recruitment activities.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION

 

Graduation from an accredited dental school.

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in California.

Current CPR (BLS) certifications. ACLS preferred.

DEA Certification

 

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience preferred, ideally within a community health center environment.

SKILLS

Ability to be clinically fluent in Spanish preferred.

Strong General dentistry skills and experience.

Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred.

Administrative, management, PI, and budget development experience preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required

Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients and providers of differing backgrounds; team player.

Customer-service oriented.

Strong computer skills.

Familiar with adult learning and general training techniques

Positive professional insight.

Flexibility and dependability.

Demonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgment.

Effective leadership/supervisory skills

Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks.

 

 

Travel is required in this position.

 

The base pay range for this exempt position starts at $182,457.60 a year.  Our competitive salaries are dependent on knowledge, skills and experience.  The base pay does not include other forms of compensation and/or incentives.
