Responsibilities

Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the PACE Medical Director oversees and directs PACE Medical Services for the UHC PACE program. Ensures compliance with Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) regulations, organizational requirements, and applicable Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. The PACE Medical Director also provides primary medical care to participants at the PACE site, including assessment, and the development and evaluation of a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • The PACE Medical Director is responsible for the delivery of participant care, clinical outcomes, and for the implementation and oversight of the quality assessment and performance improvement program.
  • Engages and collaborates with the Quality Improvement department to participate in data analysis, implement quality improvement initiatives, and follow through with assigned performance improvement processes.
  • Provides direction and supervision to all PACE primary care providers and PACE contracted specialists. Ensures the quality of related primary care, nursing, and allied health services.
  • The Medical Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of medical policies and procedures/standards and protocols. Ensures compliance with State, Federal, and local regulations associated with PACE program requirements, including Clinic Licensure, HIPAA, and Fraud Waste and Abuse.

 

PERFORMANCE AREA 1: PACE Medical Services

 

  • Collaborates with CMO to oversee and direct PACE Medical Services.
  • Assist with oversight of clinician work schedules and appropriate staffing as needed.
  • Supervise clinicians at different PACE sites.
  • Assure patient flow efficiency.
  • Assist in administration of clinician performance evaluations at PACE sites.
  • Assist the CMO and Physician Recruiter with applicant recruitment, interviews, and placement.
  • Provide direct patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement meetings.
  • Contribute to UHC Senior Leadership Team meetings as requested.
  • Assists in oversite of UHC PACE chart audit and QI review process.
  • Represent UHC at local, state and national levels as requested.

 

 

 

PERFORMANCE AREA 2: General Corporate Expectations

 

  • Attends and actively participates in all meetings (e.g., department meetings, program meetings, employee staff meetings) and other activities as required or assigned.
  • Attends workshops/seminars as necessary to increase skills and knowledge to provide effective care, treatment, and/or leadership.
  • Supports the overall needs of the health center by working flexible or extended hours when necessary.
  • Supports the needs of the PACE center by traveling to other UHC PACE Centers and clinics when staffing needs dictate the need for licensed personnel.
  • Demonstrates awareness of, and compliance with, organizational mission and objectives of UHC PACE to provide health care access and support services for all members of the community.
  • Supports their own staff development by completing the required hours of continuing education each year.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either verbally or in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for information regarding patients and other team members; abides by UHC Rules of Confidentiality and general HIPAA regulations regarding privacy.
  • Displays a positive, professional and respectful demeanor at all times toward fellow staff members, peers, professional contacts, and patients served, maintaining a professional appearance and positive image for the health centers.
  • Contributes to the team by promoting positive staff interaction, and maintains open communication with other programs/departments.

Qualifications

Licensure:

  • Current State of California licensure.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Staff privileges with contracted hospitals required.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice required.
  • Medical Director Certification is preferred.

 

PRIOR EXPERIENCE  

  • Four years of experience as a practicing physician with an emphasis on geriatric or adult disabled populations required.
  • Experience in a Medical Director role preferred.



The salary wage range that UHC reasonably expects to pay for the position is $290,000.00 - $410,000.00 a year plus bonus.  Our competitive salaries are dependent on knowledge, skills and experience.  The base pay does not include other forms of compensation and/or incentives.
